CPhI WorldWide 2020 ... bites the dust!!

The CPhI WorldWide, the premier event for the pharmaceutical industry globally, has finally surrendered in front of the global pandemic that is Covid-19. It is a travelling exhibition, in that every year, it is held in a different city, like Frankfurt, Milan, Barcelona, Madrid etc. This year, it was supposed to be held in Milan, Italy.

As per a short and terse notice on its official website, after prolonged and detailed discussions and consultations with various stakeholders, it was decided to postpone the physical event to next year. This year, a digital meeting will be organized, so that business can be conducted, although in a virtual space. This probably is what the future holds. Virtual exhibitions and trade shows, where buyers and sellers meet digitally.

The CPhI WorldWide is not the first fair to be postponed for a year. There have been numerous events this year that have been either cancelled or postponed. The way things are moving, it doesn't seem to be the last fair either, to be postponed. The earliest that normalcy will be restored, seems to be only by early next year, once either a vaccine or a medicine is widely available for CoVid-19. Till then travel restrictions will remain, and so will the atmosphere of fear. Till then we can only hope that things don't go further south.

International Exhibitions - Post the Pandemic!

The Corona or the Covid-19 pandemic has been a destructor like none before. There is no industry any where in the world, that hasn't been badly hit, except probably the healthcare sector, and the factories which have suddenly started manufacturing face masks, sanitizers, disinfectants and such other.

However, businesses worldwide now, need to open up and start functioning to stay afloat and survive. And for that they need to meet people, and discuss. The best platform for that, so far as international business is concerned at least, is the humble exhibition or the trade show. The problem is that the moment we talk about international trade shows, we have to talk about air travel across borders, we have to talk about hotel stays, and we have to talk about the crowds at the venue. What we are effectively talking about is close interaction with potential virus carriers, and a potential spread of the corona virus. We could do away with participating at the fairs, or visiting them, but then that would mean the end of profitable business for many. So it is really a very difficult trade-off, one which does not offer any easy answers.

Thankfully, as the virus gets controlled in most parts of Europe, the area it hit the hardest till a month back. things are looking up. There are fewer postponements and cancellations. Participation at the next few fairs might be a little lower than usual. The visitors might not come in as huge numbers as is normal. But with things normalizing for most part, the exhibitions coming up in Europe, might be the harbingers of good news for many. Precautions will need to be taken, planing will have to be more intense, and there will be many new normals. But things will get back to normal.

Hopefully by September 2020, the exhibition and trade show sector, in Europe will be booming again, and will lead to many more business deals and many more happy stories. Looking forward to it!!

Color as a design tool.

Colors are a very important, yet very subjective, tool in the design industry. They can be very effective and yet very under-rated, as a component of design. Due to cultural considerations, or prior association of a color with a particular emotion, they can evoke entirely different reactions in different people. Red, for example, could evoke a feeling of euphoria and happiness in some people and a feeling of lurking danger in some others. The context, in which the color is visible, also decides the reaction that it will elucidate in a particular person.

Where exhibition design is concerned, one has to realize that it has a very peculiar problem, so far as creating brand equity is concerned. Unlike a normal composite market place, where one comes across many shops selling many different wares; in an exhibition, there are rows and rows of stalls selling pretty much the same set of goods or services. Furthermore, since the exhibition usually has a fixed display period of, maybe a few days, again unlike a normal marketplace, the visitors have to hurry through it all. Now, imagine yourself in an exhibition as a visitor, where you have to go through aisle upon aisle of various vast halls, all having stalls on both sides, offering the same things, and having to decide which booth to go into, and which to give a miss. Add to all the confusion, the fact that all you have is maybe three or four days to do it all!!

This is where, like other components of design, and probably more prominently, color comes into play. The overall color scheme is a major contributor to the character, ambiance, and feel of the booth. It can convey the corporate message of the exhibitor, or put forth the status of the company, or establish its brand equity in a very powerful, yet subtle way. Unfortunately, most exhibitors seem to be color blind, and stick to the corporate color palette for inspiration, rather than explore the entire color wheel. The designers too, prefer to pick the safer, more neutral color combinations, rather than experiment with newer shades or colors. But, wherever they are allowed to, and wherever they do, the results are absolutely stunning to say the least.

What do you think? Fell free to let us know!!

Do get in touch with us, to discuss the possibilities that are associated with your participation in your next fair or trade show. We look forward to hearing from you

Some Upcoming Exhibitions in India - 2018

As it happens, quite a few major fairs are planned in the remaining few months of 2018. One of the major ones, would be the Indian Handicrafts & Gifts Fair, at the Expo Mart in Greater Noida, It is the autumn edition of the famed handicrafts fair, held twice every year. The Autumn edition of 2018 will be held from the 14th till the 18th of October.

Organised by the EPCH, or the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts, the IHGF, is Asia's largest gifts and handicrafts fair. Conceptualized in the year 1994, the IHGF, has now become the one stop shop for all sourcing needs of international buyers and buying agents. The fair, this year, offers more space, more exhibitors and a categorization of products into 14 distinct categories, for a better and more interactive display.

Needless to say, we cater to this segment too!! In fact, we have been designing and building for our clients at this fair, since the year 2000, and this happens to be one of the most important fairs for us in our calendar!!

This particular stand was built for the very reputed export firm, Asif Designs / Atuf Industries, which happens to be based in Moradabad, in the autumn edition of the IHGF 2016.

The product range was so vast and varied, that in spite of having created different sections for the different categories, and in spite of the arrangement to hang the lamps from the beams in the ceiling, a lot of the products ended up on the floor. But, we were able to arrange them meaningfully, and create an impact.

If you would be interested in giving your brand a distinctive identity, and create a lasting impact on the visitors' mind, do get in touch with us at info@teamstudioone.in. We would be happy to help and be a part of your team for all future fairs and exhibitions worldwide.

A corner stand that had part of one wall taken up by a huge electric box! The box was cleverly used to hide the storage area behind it.

The product display being limited, was well complimented by graphic posters, that were placed such that they were easily visible from the aisles outside!

Light as an Exhibit Design Tool

The importance of proper lighting as a design tool for exhibition booths or stands can never be over-emphasized. Whatever, the focus product group of a trade show or exhibition be, proper lighting can be a very effective medium to enhance the overall experience and ambience inside the stall. It can, in fact, be a very important part of the message that the exhibitor would like to send out to potential visitors at his booth.

Lighting as an exhibit design tool
If proper lighting can enhance the user experience, bad lighting can altogether kill it too. A designer has to strike a balance, so as not indulge in unnecessary overkill. Just putting in a lot of lights at every corner, does not seem to be the right way to light up an exhibition booth. It needs to be an integral part of the whole design fabric. Sometimes, low lighting can be more powerful than anything else.

Low and selective lighting for a better design effect
Sometimes the lighting itself can be seamlessly woven into the overall design fabric of the tradeshow booth, for a very unique and eye-catching look.

Lighting as an integral part of exhibit design
Whatever be the way one uses lighting to lend character to the exhibition stall, it, unfortunately, remains one of the most under-used and under-utilised of all design elements.

Stand setup at the IDS 2013, Cologne, Germany.

In our endeavour to increase our footprint across major fairs and venues in Europe, we are now also working in the IDS Cologne 2013 Fair. And as we relax after having set up a stand at the fair, we now prepare to dismantle it and move on to the European Coatings Show, the ECS, at Nuremberg. The big thumbs up we received from our client, Jyoti Ceramics GmbH, is a huge encouragement to us and to our team. It also proves our efforts to come good every time. We have now been contracted to setup for the same client at the ECS 2013 at Nuremberg and also at the Powtech later in April, also in Nuremberg.

I have uploaded some pictures of the booth in the Gallery section, but am also uploading it here for easy viewing.

Looking for Associates / Project Managers

Studio One Designs Pvt. Ltd., a leading architectural practice based in Ghaziabad, India, and specialized in exhibition stand design and fitout, is actively looking out for associates / project managers worldwide. We are looking to team up with self-motivated, highly energetic people, who need not be highly experienced in the exhibition industry, but are willing to go out and conquer.

Over the last many years that we have designed and fabricated stalls in exhibitions all over India and in Europe, notably Germany, we have marketed for ourselves, picking up stands without really trying too hard. No that we were too high headed or prude.. Just that we were concentrating more on improving our infrastructure and gaining varied experience with all sorts of typologies of exhibitions and trade fairs. Now, after so many years in the industry, we feel confident of our abilities to pull off near-perfect results in the most hostile and unhelpful of conditions anywhere in the world. So, now we consider, is the best time to aggressively market our services to the world.

As project managers, we expect people to be perfect team players, willing to stick their necks out to get the best results, and to be very honest and proactive. You dont need to setup an office with all the associated paraphernalia. A phone, internet connection and a willingness to get out there, meet people and convince them enough to execute a sale, is all you need. You may be located in any part of the world, and working in any time zone. So long as you are able to pick up projects, we really dont have any problems.

And now for the most important part .... salary. You dont get any. We are not intending on hiring people who work for free, simply because nobody works for free. We dont, so we dont expect our associates to work for free either. The keyword is associate. You work as an associate. You generate business and you get a fair share of the proceeds generated by you. The share depends on the amount of work you put in, and can be reviewed from time to time and from project to project. Its like saying that you are your own master. You decide your work hours, your work area and your payouts. All we need from you is honesty, not only to us, but also to our clients.

If you feel upto it, do mail us your proposal and the geographical area you want to operate in and we will discuss further. Our mail id is studioonedpl@gmail.com
