A Focus on Display!!

As I prepare for the exhibition season ahead, and I pour through various books and journals and websites, looking for newer design ideas, I cannot help but notice, how the more things change, the more they remain the same!! Design today, is just as based on principles as it was 5, 10 or 15 years back, and on the same principles too.

One of the most enduring principles of design, whether it be exhibition, retail, residential or commercial or any other type of space, has been to create a focus ..... a point that the whole space tends to converge to. It is a point in space that holds your gaze and attracts you to itself by grabbing your attention in a big way. Although, it is as relevant in a residential as in a commercial or any other space, it is even more relevant when we talk about retail and especially exhibition space.

In any exhibition, the exhibiting companies, try to showcase their entire range of products, in all their colours and variants. This tends to cramp up the space, and a person, a potential buyer, entering the stand / stall, is unable to locate the one thing that he needs in all the mess, even though it is right in front of his eyes. It is here that the focal point comes into play. It gives a relief to the eyes, and slows down the speed at which the visitor sweeps the space around him.

A focal wall or a focal display is a very important element in exhibition stand design / exhibition stall design. It has the ability to tell the visitor the theme of the display, or the company policy, or the high point of the product, in a very subtle and understated, yet in a very powerful way.

More Fairs Added To Our Portfolio

I know I havent updated my blog in quite some time, but it has really been a very busy month for me. With so many upcoming exhibitions in all parts of the world, and with so many enquiries, time flew by without my even noticing it!! But I am happy. It has all been very fruitful and enriching.

We have now successfully expanded our portfolio to include more fairs in Germany. We will now be doing stands in Anuga Cologne, A+A Dusseldorf and the EMO Hannover Fairs. We are now targetting even more fairs not only in Germany, but in the Middle East as well. Exhibition Booth Design

Exhibition Booth Design, is really no different from any other design problem or project. It follows the same principles of form, space and aesthetics. Although, the scale is smaller as compared to lets say an average office interior or a small sized residential design, the design itself is more often than not, much more extravagant. But the principles still remain the same.

The only extra constraint that comes into play is the time factor. Exhibitions, the world over, offer very tight time schedules for set up of the booth. With normally, just two to three days to set up the entire stand, sometimes even a small stand becomes a pain in the you-know-what!! When one considers the Indian exhibition industry, this can prove to be a very important factor when designing and constructing a stand. After all, one would not want to design a stand that is so complex, that fabricating and setting it up is a complex and time-intensive process. The reference to the Indian exhibition industry, is by virtue of the fact that in India, the actual time of handover of the stand space to the stand constructor by the fair organizers, is very different from what is communicated to the participant. The Right Time To Plan

When I talk to prospective clients about their booth design, a question that keeps cropping up from the clients' side, in various avatars, is "can we take a decision on this next week?" or "whats the hurry?".

Think about it, and the answer is not very difficult to understand. The more time the stand designer has, the better the planning that can go into designing and fabricating it. Also, costs can be reduced and mishaps avoided. The best part, from the participants' perspective is, the earlier he decides and finalizes things, the more the designer will be game to bargaining and reducing prices, to even the extent of slashing his margins!!!

Meaning a better designed stand, with a better finish and better chances of a timely delivery, at a lower price!! Best of both the worlds, or should I say, best of all the worlds!!
